Newsletter 5-04/04/2025. Spring has finally sprung!

Hi lovely people!

I don’t know about where you are, but the weather this week has been wonderful here! We reached 20 degrees Celsius today! Positively balmy! This, along with a cheeky Mother’s Day trip to the garden centre last weekend has got me firmly back into the mood for planting out some yummy delights.

Last year, I was part of a project run by IKEA called “Live Lagom”, and really honed my vegetable growing skills (still working on the flowers, but I am getting there). We had an entire house full of grow lights, seed mats and seedlings and it was pretty overwhelming to be honest, so this year I am scaling back-a bit! Last year, I had around twenty tomato plants left after I had put way more than we needed in our garden, handed some out to friends and did a bit of guerilla planting in our close! We ended up taking them to a car boot we went to and handed them all out for free!

This year, I have been slightly procrastinating my growing, so I purchased some seedlings last weekend of a few varieties of tomatoes and peppers, some flowers and a new olive tree, but to be honest, there is something extra-special about growing vegetables, especially from seed to harvest and eating them, so I will still be doing that this year.

I subscribed to Pot Gang (a gardening subscription box) this year and that has been great for reminding me to plant some seeds and for ensuring I have everything I need to do so. I have been really impressed by the quality of their boxes so far, although I have had to substitute my strawberry seedlings for some that I purchased online because they are still so tiny!!! Maybe they will be good to overwinter in the greenhouse!

We are currently on the waiting list for an allotment, so fingers crossed my house will be less of a jungle of seedlings this year! I have been eagerly awaiting the viewings of the plots so I can finally start planning the space out in my journals!

Other than that, life has been pretty much all about planning content, setting up my new Hobonichi Cousin Spring Start, and making it through the last week of school!

Ok, so what have I been reading?

I picked up “Someone is Lying” by Heidi Perks in Tesco the other day because it was on offer there and I read most of it in one evening! It is a very fast-paced thriller about a woman’s daughter going missing in Portugal and finding it difficult to get people to believe her initially. I won’t spoil it any more but if you like twisty-turn crime thrillers, this is a really good fast-paced read.

I haven’t been listening to anything so far this week because I have been all in my head and needing to use my brain for planning and content etc. which means I can’t listen to anything at the same time! I am sure I have said before, but I can only listen to audiobooks and podcasts when I am doing mindless tasks like cleaning, walking the dog, knitting or crocheting etc. If I have to use my brain to form thoughts, the listening has to stop!!

I have to admit, I haven’t watched much this week except having re-runs of Criminal Minds on in the background now and again, but I did watch “The Fox Hollow Murders” on Disney+ and it was very disconcerting. It is a true crime documentary about serial murderer Herb Baumeister, but if you have seen “The Jinx”, it really reminded me of that, and there were points where I wondered if there would be the same kind of revelations made! Definitely recommend this one if you are interested in true crime-I really feel it is important that the poor victims have their stories heard properly at some point too.

That’s probably enough rambling for this week!

I hope you all have the best week you possibly can. I know that things are hard for many of you, but try to do something that is just for you and your mental health this week and let me know what it is. If we share them we can all take ideas from each other and protect or improve our mental health as a collective ❤️. I will start us off and say that I am going to force myself outside in the garden to do some spring cleaning and make sure I walk the dog a bit further afield to spend some time at the river in the sunshine this weekend.

Love, Stacy x
